Special provisions
The QSA offers the following advice to Principals about how to address school and student concerns in relation to specific assessments. This information is based on QSA's Policy on Special Provisions for School-based Assessments in Authority and Authority-registered Subjects (January 2009).
Schools should not try to make up for lost assessment time or units of work for senior subjects. Assessment work that is now lost or destroyed does not need to be re-assessed. The focus should be on the future to ensure that there is an adequate amount of work or coverage of the course that might constitute the "new" folios of student work to submit for the verification meetings in October.
For further advice about making reasonable educational adjustments in the form of alternative assessments or exemptions, please contact Kim Lavin on telephone 3864 0375.
Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test
Students affected by floods or Cyclone Yasi who will be sitting the Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test on 30–31 August will not have missed out on any of the content being assessed. The QCS Test assesses core skills developed through the teaching of the dimensions/general objectives of the syllabuses. Schools will still have sufficient time to familiarise students with the format of the test and practise for it using past papers.
Individual students may apply for special provisions. For further information: Special provisions for the QCS Test
Anomalies in students’ results
The QSA has a committee that considers all cases where students' academic performance may have been affected by circumstances such as natural disasters. This committee meets shortly before final results are awarded in December.
Replacement syllabuses and support materials
Schools requiring replacement QSA syllabuses and support materials should complete the Replacement Publications Order Form and return to the QSA. The QSA will provide these resources free of charge to schools in districts that were affected by the floods or Cyclone Yasi.
Schools should contact their local district office to obtain senior work programs.
Replacement certificates and statements
People in flood or cyclone affected areas who require replacement Queensland certificates or statements (e.g. Queensland Certificate of Education, Senior Certificate, Tertiary Entrance Statement) should contact Christina Dedoussis on 3864 0426.
