QCATs are authentic, performance-based assessments aligned to the Australian Curriculum that:
- engage students in meaningful tasks in Years 4, 6 and 9 that value higher order thinking skills
- provide evidence of students understanding and skills in relationship to the Australian Curriculum content descriptions and achievement standards
- support teachers in making consistent judgments about students work using moderation processes
- provide teachers with information about student achievement with a focus for future teaching and learning.

Pilot field trial
We are seeking applications from schools to participate in the 2012 QCAT pilot field trial. The trial will take place from 13 February to 2 March 2012 and will involve students in Years 5, 7 and 10 in English, Mathematics and Science. For further information see:
