Student assessment regimes: Getting the balance right for Australia.
The Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) has released a draft discussion paper - Student assessment regimes: Getting the balance right for Australia. The paper is designed to promote discussion and clarify thinking on aspects and impacts of national assessment programs and their future role.
The paper examines:
- evidence about the effects that assessment regimes have on student learning outcomes
- how to avoid unbalanced assessment regimes that have unintended negative effects on those learning outcomes
- how national tests and teacher judgment can be used to improve teaching and learning and to provide meaningful data to policymakers.
It also proposes principles for a balanced national assessment regime for Australia, in which accountability for student learning is shared by teachers, schools, schooling authorities and government agencies.
QSA welcomes comment on this draft discussion paper. Comments can be emailed to: assessment@qsa.qld.edu.au.
