Year 2 Diagnostic Net publications

The Year 2 Diagnostic Net project provides teachers with a comprehensive set of materials to help them monitor significant aspects of young children's literacy and numeracy development.

These materials promote the effective learning and teaching of early literacy and numeracy, while complementing teachers' comprehensive assessment of learning and development in the early years of schooling. The Net materials also support teachers in developing learning programs that meet children's diverse learning needs.

Publications are available either individually, or as a kit, which contains each of these items.

Reading Developmental Continuum (1995)
Researched and developed by the Education Department of Western Australia and published by Longman Australia as part of the First Steps program. In 1995, the Queensland Government adopted the First Steps literacy continua as part of Queensland's Year 2 Diagnostic Net process, supporting literacy and numeracy development in the early years of schooling.
Writing Developmental Continuum(1995)
Researched and developed by the Education Department of Western Australia and published by Longman Australia as part of the First Steps program. In 1995, the Queensland Government adopted the First Steps literacy continua as part of Queensland's Year 2 Diagnostic Net process.
Number Developmental Continuum (1997)
Developed by officers of the Department of Education, Queensland, and subsequently the Queensland School Curriculum Council, as part of Queensland's Year 2 Diagnostic Net process.
Handbook for Schools (1996)
The handbook provides Queensland schools with the information needed to help plan and implement the Year 2 Diagnostic Net in their schools.
Understanding the Key Indicators of Reading and Writing (1997)
THe book provides interpretations and explanations for each of the key indicators of phases A to D from the Reading and Writing Developmental Continua. It has been written to help teachers develop a comprehensive understanding of the key indicators and to promote consistency. Teachers may find this information useful during mapping and validation.
The Year 2 Diagnostic Net CD-ROM (1998)
The CD-ROM offers a range of support materials related to the Year 2 Diagnostic Net, such as the developmental continua, reports, parent brochures, advice on fair and equitable practices, and additional information on Phases C and D reading. The CD-ROM is available to schools only.
A3 copy masters:1998-99 (1998)
A3 Copy Masters:1998-99 contains printed copies of A3-size sheets for use as photocopy masters. These sheets are also included on The Year 2 Diagnostic Net CD-ROM for those schools that have A3 print facilities. Sheets that are A4 in size can be printed from the CD-ROM for copying. A3 Copy Masters:1998-99 is available to schools only.
A Guide to Using Phase A Reading and Writing in Your Classroom (1999)
This guide helps teachers monitor children's development in Phase A of the Reading and Writing Developmental Continua.
