QCS Test markers
QCS markers are selected from the QCS Test marker pool, which consists mostly of teachers or former teachers from across Queensland. Each year, the QSA recruits new markers to add to the pool.
The primary objective of the marking operation is to mark and grade student responses reliably according to prepared marking schemes. Markers gain valuable professional experience and are paid for their marking.
For schools, having teachers who are QCS Test markers provides significant benefits. Teachers who participate in the marking gain a better understanding of the nature of the marking operation and the quality assurance processes that are in place. Because marking takes place in the September school holidays, there is no disruption to school staffing arrangements.
Selection criteria
QCS Test marker applicants must teach or live in Queensland and must satisfy the following criteria:
- demonstrated understanding of assessment based on criteria and standards
- ability to apply a prescriptive marking model
- demonstrated ability to follow instructions correctly
- satisfactory achievement in the recruitment tests; Short Response marker applicants are tested for aptitude, spelling, vocabulary and comprehension; Writing Task marker applicants submit their marking of sample student scripts.
