QCE literacy and numeracy requirements

To be awarded a QCE, students must meet literacy and numeracy requirements. These requirements are satisfied by any of the following options:

At least a Sound Achievement in 1 semester of 1 of these subjects:

A student may:

  • exit the subject after 4 semesters with a Sound Level of Achievement or higher
  • exit the subject after 1, 2 or 3 semesters with a Sound Level of Achievement
  • exit the subject with a Limited or Very Limited Level of Achievement, having achieved a notional* Sound level in a single semester.

Note: The Functional English subject does not meet Literacy requirements.

At least a Sound Achievement in 1 semester in 1 of these subjects:

A student may:

  • exit the subject after 4 semesters with a Sound Level of Achievement or higher
  • exit the subject after 1, 2 or 3 semesters with a Sound Level of Achievement
  • exit the subject with a Limited or Very Limited Level of Achievement, having achieved a notional* Sound level in a single semester.

Note: The Functional Maths subject does not meet Numeracy requirements.

At least a Sound Achievement in the short course in numeracy developed by the QSA

Competence in VET Vocational Literacy 3 (39153QLD)

Competence in VET Vocational Numeracy 3 (39163QLD)

A Pass grade in a literacy course recognised by the QSA (must meet all NRS Level 3 requirements or above)

A Pass Grade in a numeracy course recognised by the QSA (must meet all NRS Level 3 requirements or above)

At least a C on the Queensland Core Skills Test

At least a C on the Queensland Core Skills Test

*The QCE Handbook (Appendix 3) describes processes by which a school assigns a notional Sound achievement for 1 semester of Authority or Authority-registered subjects.
