QSA relocation

The QSA will be relocating to brand new, greener and more cost-effective premises in South Brisbane from 1 May 2010. National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

The Narrative writing task: Training for markers PowerPoint presentation, Narrative Marking Guide and other materials used at NAPLAN marker training sessions are now available to all schools on the QSA website.

Amendments to Chemistry (2007) and Physics (2007) syllabuses

The assessment conditions for extended responses (extended experimental investigations and extended response tasks) in the Chemistry (2007) and Physics (2007) senior syllabuses have been amended. A memo detailing the amendments has been sent to all Queensland secondary schools.

Box.net trial for Physics teachers

Senior Physics teachers are invited to participate in a QSA trial of Box.net software. The purpose is to facilitate the online sharing of teaching resources, units and assessment. The trial runs until the end of Semester 1, 2010. For more information, email: theo.clark@qsa.qld.edu.au.

QSA assessment glossary

The updated QSA assessment glossary is now available. The glossary promotes a clear and common understanding of specialised assessment terms as they are used in QSA publications.

QSA conference - Shared vision: An Australian curriculum P-12

Session preference forms

All registered delegates will receive an emailed conference session preference form from QSA Professional Development (PD) & Events. Please refer to speaker profiles and session synopses to assist you to make your session choices. Registered delegates are asked to complete and return the form as soon as possible. Attendance at all sessions is limited and session preferences will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, phone PD & Events on: (07) 3864 0471.

Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)

Certificate reprints

The QSA is currently processing provider-reported errors from the December 2009 certification, with certificate reprints to be completed by the end of March. Any provider-reported errors received from March onwards will be dealt with as part of the mid-year certification.

Reminder for interstate and international students

The QSA reminds all senior schools that, by completing a Form S1(b) or Form S1(c), interstate or international students may be able to obtain credit towards their QCE for previously completed or partially completed study. Section 4 of the QCE Handbook and the QCE Legislative guidelines contain further information about credit transfer procedures for students.

QCE Update

The March issue of QCE Update is now available. Senior schools and learning providers are encouraged to check QCE Update regularly to stay up to date with QCE information, key dates and resources.

Professional development and events

QSA workshops in March support senior syllabuses in Graphics, English (for schools in the open trial), Dance, Drama, Health Education, Visual Art and Science SAS . VET workshops cover Construction, Plumbing and Services and Information & Communications Technology training packages. You can also learn more about using the Essential Learnings and Standards at workshops in Brisbane, Wide Bay, Gold Coast and Townsville. NAPLAN workshops are being held in Brisbane on 19 and 26 March. To request a NAPLAN workshop in your district in Term 3, please complete an expression of interest form.

QSA jobs

The QSA has vacancies for quantitative and qualitative analysts to work on projects including NAPLAN and the Senior Education Profile. Draft National Professional Standards for Teachers

The draft National Professional Standards for Teachers are available for consultation until 7 May. The draft, released by the Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs, describes what is required of teachers at four levels of professional expertise - Graduate, Proficient, Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher - across three domains: Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Engagement.
